Eyelashes

KawaiiKawaii Lemming
A few days ago, I was admiring my bunny's long, thick golden-brown eyelashes (as you do). It's as if Pickles is wearing palomino mascara.
But when Prince, my Syrian hamster, woke up, I saw that he didn't appear to have any - golden or otherwise.

This got me thinking. 1) Do hamsters actually have eyelashes? 2) why would a domestic rabbit which sleeps above ground have eyelashes, and a pet hamster which sleeps in a nest, not have them?

I have attached photos of the relevant animals' eyes so you can see what I mean!!

You've got me zooming in on photos of my mice to see if they have eyelashes X( it doesn't look like they do...
    Hmmm... intriguing!

Great thread, I too have been zooming in on all my photos to check. Do you think it has something to do with the shape of the eye? Mice and Hamsters have bulging eyes.

AnnB surely that would mean they'd be more likely to get things in their eyes so would need eyelashes now than ever?
Maybe their fur does the job for them...

But perhaps eyelashes have little effect if your eyes already stick out anyway?

Ooh I wish I knew!! Lol!!!
Maybe their fur does the job of protecting their eyes so they don't actually need eyelashes? The chinchillas do not seem to have eye lashes either.

I've just been doing some detective work on google and found a macro photo of a hamster's eye which does seem to show eyelashes.

Their eyes are super tiny, so I guess they just have tiny tiny lashes too X(

Just bumping this thread as a minute ago I discovered an old photo of one of my mice, clearly showing eyelashes.

Hmm guess  I must just be blind - but Prince is PEW so white fur. So probably white eye lashes too?
Or maybe I just really ought to find my glasses. :P
